Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
